What is Family Tax Benefit (FTB)?

The Family Tax Benefit (FTB) is a family assistance payment that can help you with the cost of raising dependent children. The FTB is divided into two parts - A and B.

Family Tax Benefit Part A is payable to the parent or guardian of a child under age 21 or a dependent full-time student between the ages of 21 and 24. Family Tax Benefit Part B provides additional financial assistance to families with one main income earner, including sole parent families with a dependent full-time student up to the age of 18 years.

The amount of the benefit depends on your family’s individual circumstances.

As of 1 July 2009, the Family Tax Benefit is no longer administered by the ATO. In order to apply you must lodge online with the Family Assistance Office.
